  • People Architects
  • Wooster, OH

Job Description

People Architects is partnering with a well-established, family-owned business to recruit a Human Resources Manager for an on-site role in Wooster, Ohio.

Summary: This isn't just an HR role behind a desk; it’s a chance to be the heartbeat of a multi-site operation. While based in Wooster, you will serve as the primary HR resource across our various locations, ensuring a consistent and supportive culture for our entire team. We are looking for a people-person who thrives on variety and one who can navigate complex compliance one hour and build genuine trust with our drivers and dispatchers in the field the next. As a strategic partner to leadership, you will have a seat at the table to influence culture and create a workplace where safety and employee well-being go hand-in-hand. If you are a collaborative problem-solver who wants to see the direct results of your work across a growing organization, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic HR business partner, aligning people practices with operational goals and a safety-first culture.

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting and onboarding for office, operations, and driver roles (including CDL requirements).

  • Oversee payroll processing and HRIS management in partnership with Finance to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Manage employee relations, including conducting investigations, resolving conflicts, and coaching supervisors.

  • Administer compensation and benefits, including open enrollment, leave administration, and performance reviews.

  • Support performance management through goal setting (Rocks) and leadership coaching.

  • Coordinate DOT/FMCSA drug and alcohol testing programs and ensure driver qualification files meet regulatory standards.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO) and maintain meticulous personnel records.

  • Partner with Safety/Operations on training initiatives, harassment prevention, and incident response support.

  • Assist in response coordination for accidents involving drivers, including documentation and return-to-work coordination.

  • Prepare HR metrics (turnover, time-to-fill) to identify trends and recommend scalable improvements.

Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on employee relations and recruiting.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence leadership and lead initiatives without direct authority.

  • Experience supporting a transportation, logistics, or safety-sensitive workforce is highly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of employment laws and regulatory compliance (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO).

  • Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA driver qualification and drug/alcohol testing protocols is a plus.

  • HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) preferred.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and HRIS/payroll systems.

  • Excellent communication style—able to translate complex policy into practical guidance for field-based teams.

  • Valid driver’s license.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. People Architect and our clients are equal opportunity employers and do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status. Applicants for employment with any of People Architect’s clients will never be asked to provide money (even if reimbursable) as part of the job application or hiring process.
